How to Write a Powerful Headline

If at first you don't succeed, try a different cliché!

Many people ask us what "the twist" is. If you have seen our slogan for MarketAbility, perhaps you yourself have wondered.

When it comes to writing a powerful copy, "the twist" can be as easy as shucking corn in a hen house. Lucky for you, writing a great headline for your next media release can be just as easy.

If you are writing a media release, but just can't come up with that perfect headline, try this trick of the experienced copywriter. Take a well known cliché, then give it "the twist."

Some examples of great cliché-based media release headlines:

*
Should I Shave or Should I Grow?
Job applicants wonder what their whiskers tell potential employers

*
Something Old. Something New.
Something Borrowed . . . And a Toolbox!
Couples surprised by non-traditional secret to happy marriage

*
Baby Gates and Cupboards and Electrical Outlets . . . Oh My!
3 strategies to stay one step ahead of your newly-mobile toddler

Here are a few places you can find great clichés -- the first submitted by Kim "Dr. DeClutter" Wolinski (www.DrDeClutter.com), the second is one of my favorites. Give them "the twist" and you'll have yourself some magical headlines:
